Types of Family Sponsorship Visas

• Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa: For spouses, de facto, or civil union partners of NZ citizens/residents
• Dependent Child Resident Visa: For children under 24 years of age who are single and dependent
• Parent Resident Visa: For parents of NZ citizens or residents (subject to capped numbers and sponsorship criteria)
• Parent Retirement Resident Visa: For financially self-sufficient parents with NZ-based children

Eligibility for Sponsors

• Must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
• Must live in New Zealand and intend to continue living here
• Must meet character and income requirements (especially for Parent category)
• No history of sponsoring more than one partner in the last 5 years

Partner Visa Requirements

• Evidence of genuine and stable relationship (cohabitation, shared finances, joint travel, etc.)
• Relationship must be 12 months or longer for residency pathway
• Temporary visas available for newer relationships

Child Visa Requirements

• Child must be under 24, single, and financially dependent
• Proof of custody or guardianship (if applicable)
• Both parents must consent (if applicable)

Parent Visa Requirements

• NZ sponsor must meet income thresholds (minimum NZD $106,080/year)
• Limited number of applications accepted annually
• Health and character clearance required
